our story

maggie & erin

Erin and Maggie, both registered nurses, first met while working at a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. What began as a professional relationship soon blossomed into a lifelong friendship.

Over the years, they collaborated in various nursing roles, ultimately working together at an outpatient oncology infusion center. It was there that their vision for umi patientwear took shape. Their hands-on experience with patients inspired them to create thoughtfully designed clothing that prioritizes comfort and functionality.

With umi, maggie and erin are on a mission to improve the patient experience, not only for the patient, but also the caregivers who stand beside them.

the brand

Founded in 2023 by two registered nurses, umi patientwear originated from a simple idea: to bring comfort and modesty to patients while helping healthcare professionals deliver more efficient care.

While working in outpatient infusion and vascular access services, founders Erin and Maggie saw a recurring issue—patients struggling to make their ports accessible beneath regular clothing. Many had to awkwardly lift shirts or stretch necklines, making an already challenging experience even more uncomfortable.

Inspired by the connection between patient and caregiver—“you and me”—umi creates functional, stylish clothing designed to meet the needs of people facing medical challenges. Our garments blend fashion and function to support comfort, confidence, and care.
